Other Frequently Asked Library Questions
When can my child checkout and when are books due?
Grades 1-8: Extra Checkout time is available for ALL students before school from 8:00-8:15
Kindergarten :
Kindergarten does not check out at the library. However, every two weeks the library will be bringing some delightful new books to each kindergarten classroom for students to use at school. If library books are desired at home, parents may come to the library to check out up to 10 books. An older sibling will also be allowed to check out one book for a younger kindergarten student. The older sibling must keep the book in their possession until they are home. Kindergarten students are not allowed to take books home from the school.

Can parents checkout books?
Yes! Parents may checkout up to 10 books for 3 weeks - Please come set up an account in your name if you would like to take advantage of this option.
My child said he can't checkout. Why?
1. Your child may have a late, lost, or damaged book.
-
-
- Paying to replace the book clears the library record and allows your child to renew checkout privileges.
- Refunds are issued if a book is later found and is returned in good repair to the library. Refund checks are usually sent to parents through the mail.

Lost or Damaged Items - What happens next?
Lost Book:
If your child cannot find their book you should renew the book when it is due - this will give you at least two extra weeks to find it.
When a book has been renewed once and still cannot be found, your child will not be able to checkout until the lost book is returned or paid for (see section below about "Paying for Lost and Damaged Items"). Paying for the book will enable your child to resume checkout privileges.
Damaged Book:
If a book is damaged, return it to the library so we can determine the extent of the damage. Sometimes damage is minimal or can be easily repaired and will not result in any fees.
Please DO NOT make repairs to library books. We use special tape and have specific techniques to repair books. Repairs at home, such as taping torn pages or pages that have entirely come out of the book can actually cause more damage. Please let the library make all repairs. We usually do not assess fees for old books that fall apart, regular wear and tear, pages that come out, or for rips and tears.
How do I Pay for Lost or Damaged Items?
The replacement price of each book is determined by calculating the list price of book (the price of the book when it is not on sale) + $3 for library materials used to get the book ready for checkout such as book covers, stickers, tape, etc. There are four ways to replace a book.
Cash:
send cash in a sealed envelope and deliver to the classroom teacher or to the library - Please include your child's full name and that the cash is for a lost/damaged book.
Check:
Send a check with your child and deliver to the classroom teacher or to the library. You may also mail a check to: Reagan Academy Library, 1143 West Center Street, Springville, UT 84663. Please indicate on the check your child's full name and that the check is for a lost/damaged book. Checks should be made payable to Reagan Academy.
Credit Card:
You may only use a credit card at the front office and the card must be present. There is a small additional charge for credit card usage. Please tell the front desk that the payment is for a lost/damaged library book and tell them your child's name. Please be aware that the front desk is not allowed to take credit card payments over the phone.
*Self Replacement (Saves you money):
Because the library cannot control fluctuating book prices, we must charge the list price for each book (the price of the book when it is not on sale). Often, you might find a replacement book for a better price than what we list. If you choose to replace the book yourself, we waive the extra $3 fee for library materials because of the time and effort it saves us in locating/reordering the book. Please note, if you choose this option and the missing book is later found and returned to the library, we cannot issue a refund. In addition, replacement books must be in "very good" condition or "like new," and should be in the same format as the lost or damaged book, for example, please replace a hardcover book with a hardcover book. Return the replacement book to the library with a sticky note on the cover (or insert a paper sticking out) that lists your child's name and that the book is a replacement book. Please write the note before you put it on or in the book. Do not write the note on the book, as this indents the cover and or pages.
* If you replace a book that later comes back to the library, we cannot issue a refund.
What is the Young Adult (YA) policy in the library?
Because our school serves such a wide age range of students, Kindergarten through 8th grade, if we know a book is more suitable for older readers, we will mark it with a young adult rating (YA). Our default library policy is that YA materials will only be checked out to students in 5th-8th grade.
Because many families want to make decisions about YA materials on their own, you may let the library know your preferences and we will indicate on your child's record if they are allowed to checkout YA materials before 5th grade, or if they are not allowed to checkout YA materials in 5th-8th grade. Parents may also indicate a specific series or title that is okay or not okay for their child to read. If no specific indications are made, the library will follow the default YA policy.
The following chart will give you an idea of how and why a book may be marked YA.

What should I do if a book contains objectionable content?
Please let us know. We have not read every book (although we wish we could).
We will look at each individual book/incident to determine the next appropriate action. If we learn that a book contains sensitive information for younger readers, we will mark it with a young adult rating (YA). We rely on patrons to help our library be the best it can be.
