Updates for January

Good afternoon parents! Welcome back from our short winter break! I have been impressed with how the students are ready for this new year! Here are some updates and reminders for the month of January. 1. All of my grades are up to date (math, reading, LA, science, and social studies). If there is a score with a blank, it might be because we have a couple assignments that will be due on Monday in class. Please check and make-up any missing work by TUESDAY, the 8th. 2. Tuesday the 8th is the LAST day for any missing work. I will lock my grades Tuesday night. 3. State MAP testing and Dibels testing will begin next week. On these dates please make sure your child is on time to school, has had breakfast, and is ready to go. Doing this will help your child do their best on the tests. We will test on: Monday Jan. 7th for Reading Wednesday Jan. 9th for Math Wednesday Jan. 16th for Language Usage Friday Jan. 11th and 18th will be our Phonics testing Dibels testing will begin on Monday, Jan. 7th as well. The second grade team is excited to see how your child does on these tests and how they have improved and grown in the past 5 months. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you,
Mrs. Fox

Updates for 1st week in October

I can't believe it's already October!  We have many fun things planned.  First of all, thank you to all the parents that helped on our field trip to the Bean Museum.  We had a great time and had beautiful weather to eat lunch outside. We have a new field trip coming up to Jaker's Pumpkin Patch.  That will be on October16th.  We will be walking, so we don't need any drivers.  We do need some parents to come and help be there with us though.
I'm so proud of my class!  We won the A to Z reader contest for September.  We read over 300 books last month.  I think that's the most I've seen before in a month.  For our reward, we had fresh apples from my tree and we painted fall pictures of pumpkins.  I know that my children are becoming better readers everyday.
We are still learning about Geography in Social Studies and Personal Narratives in Writing.  We are now learning about Animal Science and planning to write animal reports.
Remember the Art & Basket Auction is on October 12th.  Our Mega Basket is Family Fun.  We are excited to add more fun things to our basket.  I've only received one thing so far, so I would love to see more come in if you can.

Updates for 2nd Week in September

We will be having our first MAP testing for this school year.  We test in three areas in 2nd grade.  We test at the beginning of the year, the middle of the year, and the end of the year.  These tests help us as teachers to know what your child already knows and what he or she still needs to learn.  The schedule will be:
Reading test- Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 11:30
Math test- Thursday, Sept. 13th at 9:45
Language Usage test- Wednesday, Sept. 19th at 8:30
Please encourage your child to do their best.  :)
Also, be sure to check Aspire for missing assignments.  I enter scores almost everyday.  Please let me know if you're not sure how to check that.  I'll be happy to help you!
Please remember to turn in the Flat Stanley addresses and the field trip form for the Bean Museum.

First Week 2018

We made it through our first week!  It has been fun getting to know everyone.  We have spent time going over procedures and doing some pretesting to get everyone on their correct level.  We began rotating for math and reading.  Look for your child's Star Folder every day.  Homework, spelling lists, and poems will be included in it.  Also, the A to Z reading booklets went home for the first time yesterday.  Please be sure your child keeps them in a safe place and returns the booklet after reading it.  They will be given a new one every time they return a booklet. Booklets should never be kept for more than a week.  Please let me know if you don't see a new one for several days.  Sometimes children put them in their desk and forget to turn them in.
We are learning about Geography in Social Studies and about the Scientific Method in Science.
I am really enjoying your children and feel honored to be their teacher.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Final Week

It is unbelievable that we are at our final week of school. I feel like the years keep getting faster and faster.  It has truly been my honor to teach your child this year.  I think that we have made a lot of growth and now they are ready to move on to third grade, which makes me a little sad because I know I won't be a big part of their life anymore.  :(  I am very proud of them though!

We had a wonderful time on our hike. The weather could not have been better.  I want to thank these wonderful parents for helping us:

Bonnie Christiansen

Becky Clayton

Sandy Lakes

Marshall Lamm

Vanesa Lomeli

Stephen Martin

Tanya Pead

Sharon Richards

Denise Riggs

Sean Slobodan

Thank you for driving and keeping everyone safe!

I have a few reminders for the last week. All assignments need to be in by Monday, May 21st. We will have our second grade store on Wednesday in the afternoon.  Please let me know if you have any questions about that or need ideas of what to sell. Field Day will be on Thursday. We have some fun things coming up this week that I could use help with if you are interested.  I've had some parents ask if they could help.

On Tuesday, we will have a little Olympics and Greek Symposium to finish up our Ancient Greece unit. I need cubed cheese, grapes, fig newtons, cut up pita bread, and grape juice.  If you are interested in bringing any of these items, please let me know.

On Friday (last day), we are having our luau. Your child is welcome to wear Hawaiian clothes if they have them and bring a beach towel.  I need coconut cookies, fruit kabobs, bottled water, and Hawaiian punch pouches to put in the water.  If you are interested in helping to bring any of these items please let me know.

Thank you,

Mrs. Fox

Week 35

I am so proud of all my students for participating in the Reading Fair this year!  It was fun to see the posters of their favorite books and see that they know the components of a book.
The end of the year is fast approaching, but we still have much to learn and cover, so please encourage your child to come ready each day to do their best.  We have our end of year MAP testing coming up.  The dates are this coming Monday, April 30th, May 7th, and May 9th.  Please be sure your child gets plenty of sleep on those days and speak with them about doing their very best.
We are finishing our unit on the War of 1812.  A study guide will be coming home next week for the test.  We will then be ending with Ancient Greece.  We have also started our last Science unit on plants.

Week 32

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break!  It's crazy to think that we only have 6 more weeks of school.  We have many things to accomplish in that time.  We just finished up our science rotations with Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Lau.  We will learn about plants next in science.  That will be our final science unit.  We just finished Civil War in social studies.  We will now start learning about the War of 1812.  Remember we have our Reading Fair coming up on April 26th.
I want to give a big thank you to all the parents that helped with our last two field trips.  Thank you Bonnie Christiansen, Sandy Lakes, Tammy Lamm, Marshall Lamm, Laura Mammen, Stephen Martin, Tanya Pead,  Micah Richards, Denise Riggs, Ezra Weaver, Katie Reittinger, and Megan Slobodan.  We could not have had these experiences without you!

Week 27, 2018

We are so excited to share our biography book reports this week during reading on Wednesday.
It was great to visit with families during Parent Teacher Conferences.  If you were not able to make it last week, I would love to still meet with you.  Please let me know what day after school would work and we can make it happen.
Our class book to be published by School Mate Publishing is underway.  They should be sending it them back within the next few weeks.  I can't wait to see the finished product.
We have our Civil Rights Leaders test this Friday.  We are beginning our Civil War unit.  This is one of my favorites!
Be watching for our field trip form coming on March 1st.

Week 22, 2018

January certainly flew by.  We are well into term 3.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be coming up on Feb. 21st and 22nd.  If you can't come on those days, please contact me.  I would love to talk to everyone about your child's test results.  There were so many improvements!  I was so impressed and proud of my students.
We have had fun learning about Matter in Science.  We will be finishing that up and then begin learning about rocks.  We will also be having the Americans Move West test and finishing up Civil Rights Leaders.

Week 19, 2018

I truly hope you all had a wonderful holiday!  It was a little challenging to get used to waking up early again, but we did it.  It was great to be with your children again.
Remember that term 2 ends next week and all assignments must be in by Tuesday, Jan. 9th.  Missing reports went home this week.
MAP testing- Our second set of MAP testing starts next week.  We will have the first one on Monday, Jan. 8th at 11:40.  The second one is Thursday, Jan.11th at 9:45.  The last one will be on Tuesday, Jan. 16th at 9:45.  Please try not to miss those days and get plenty of sleep the night before, so you can do your best.
We are finishing up Americans Move West in Social Studies and Gravity in Science.  We will begin to learn about Civil Rights Leaders and Matter next.

Week 17 2017

We have been busy getting everything ready for our program this week.  I'm so proud of my children and feel that we are ready.  Please remember that the Christmas program will begin at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19th.  The school calendar said that it begins at 1:15, but that is just when we have the auditorium reserved to set it up.  We will also be performing for the school on the 18th at 11:50, so if you can't make it on Tuesday you are welcome to come on Monday instead.  Please remember to send your child in a white shirt and dark blue pants or skirt for those performances.  If you do not have those uniform colors, please let me know and we can try to find some for you.  We are not asking you to buy new clothes for the performance.
Thank you for making the model boats for our Americans Move West unit.  It was fun to see the creative ideas.
Please remember to bring a gift for our gift exchange on Dec. 21st.  We will be ending school that day at 1:00.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
Also, I can't express enough of the importance of checking Aspire for your child's assignments.  I update them almost everyday and the end of the term will be soon after the Christmas Break.  I don't want there to be any surprises at the very end.  The break may be a good time to get some missing things caught up.  :)

Week 15 2017

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and got to spend time with family.  Thank you to all that helped with our Pilgrim Day.  It was much appreciated!  December is rolling forth with lots of activities.  We are making boats to display for our Americans Moving West unit.  That will be on Dec. 13th.  We are making Velveteen Rabbits and having a Christmas Party on Dec. 21st.  Our Christmas Program is on Dec. 19th at 1:45 in the auditorium.  Please wear dark blue pants or skirt with a white collared shirt.  We will be doing a gift exchange during our party.  Please don't spend more than $2 and bring it wrapped.

Thirteenth Week 2017

It has been a fantastic week!  We finished up with Citizenship and took the test today.  We have been learning a lot about Thanksgiving and gratitude this week.  We also began learning about Americans moving west.  We're trying to finish up with the Animal Science.  We even started learning our Christmas songs for our Program.  The Program will be on Dec. 19th, so mark your calendars.
We also got to have a Pizza Party today since we won the Box Top competition!  That was super fun!
Thanks to everyone that is donating items and time to our Pilgrim Day next Tuesday.  It should be a memorable time!

Twelth Week 2017

I want to give a big thank you to all the moms and Mr. Lamm that helped with our Halloween Party last week!  We had such a great time.  I think my children will remember that for a long time.  Also, thank you to all those that contributed to our Mega Basket for the Art & Basket Auction.  It turned out to be incredible.  It was a fun and busy week!
We are finishing up with our Citizenship unit and  Animal Science within the next  week.  We will then be learning about Americans moving west and Native Americans in Social Studies.  We will also be learning about falling objects in Science.
Please keep looking on Aspire for assignments.  Let me know if you have any questions.  I keep them updated almost daily.  Let me know if you do not know how to check on your child's assignments.  I am happy to help you.  :)

Tenth Week

Thank you for working hard in term 1.  I see growth and improvements all the time.  I'm so proud of my children in my classes.  We have new chances and new opportunities for term 2.
Thank you to all that helped with the field trip to Jaker's Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday.  We had such a fun time and the weather was amazing!
We are still learning about animals in science and citizenship in social studies.  We will focus more on immigration this next week.
The Art & Basket Auction is coming up next Friday.  We haven't received anything for the Mega Basket yet.  Please help us to create a nice basket that has something to do with creating something.  This can include any kind of craft project or building, etc.  Every little bit helps.  These Mega Baskets bring in a lot of money for our school.  They will be raffled off Friday evening. I appreciate your help!
We will be having some story time rotations and a party on Halloween next Tuesday.  Costumes may be worn with the school guidelines.
