Mrs. Lewis' class performing "High C"
Added Oct 04, 2018 •
This is what an instrument circle looks like. Students will read the music posted on the board and play with the accompaniment while tracking the conductor with their eyes. Third and Fourth graders learned the notes on a C major scale with the xylophones and boomwhackers. They practiced the rhythm of the notes on the buckets and woodblocks. Notice the procedure of how students clap the beat while moving to the next instrument. We do this four times that way they get to play on all four types of instruments. Such repetition is called "practicing!"

5th grade orchestra playing Bile'em Cabbage Down
Your 5th grade students learned this song in 2 class periods! It's titled "Bile'em Cabbage Down and is a bluegrass song. When I teach this every year, I get choked up watching your amazing children learn to play an instrument and love it!!!

Mrs. Lewis' class singing "This Little Light of Mine"
We talked about Dr. Martin Luther King and African American Spirituals and Gospel music in class today. The children composed rhythm patterns with some of Dr. King's words and we created a song using "This Little Light of Mine" as the Chorus with their rhythm patterns as verses. They are supposed to jump randomly on "Shine!" I love their enthusiasm!
