We are off to a fantastic start in P.E.

Parents, please help your child remember to wear running shoes on the day they come to P.E. If they are wearing slip on shoes or boots, they need to bring an extra pair of shoes in their backpacks.

Next week 3rd-6th grade will be starting softball. If your child has his/her own mitt, they are welcome to bring it to class with them. We do have mitts at the school for their use if they do not bring one from home.

In times like these physical activity can play an important role in maintaining our physical, mental and emotional well-being, as well as a sense of normalcy. Our P.E. department would like to provide the following as resource/suggestions to help keep your students active while structured P.E. instruction is not available. Students should participate in some form of physical activity for 20-30 minutes daily in order to meet the P.E. requirements. Besides the below resources there are vast online resources including workout videos, fitness routines, dance along routines, indoor and outdoor games/activities and much more. There are also basic staples such as jogging, runnning, jump roping, hula hooping, situps/pushups, jumping jacks, kicking/throwing/hitting/shooting a ball, sports, etc. Students are welcome to choose any activity that is fun and interesting for them.

The benefits of staying active extend far beyond our physical health, it can contribute greatly to our mental and emotional health as well including: boosting brain performance and creativity, decreasing symptoms of depression and anxiety, decreasing stress and calming effects on the mind leading to better sleep!

On my school website you can find a form for tracking daily physical fitness. The form indicates 60 minutes is the daily goal, which is the recommended daily amount of physical activity for children and teens. However, to meet the P.E. requirement we are asking for a minimum of 20-30 minutes daily. Please fill this out for each day, snap a picture and return via email each Friday. Also, if you would like to share videos of your child(ren) participating in physical activity we will post these to the school’s social media pages as inspiration/motivation for other students. Examples from their classmates may prove to be helpful and inspiring in keeping all of our students active.

Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I am happy to help however I can. I will be monitoring email closely, especially during school hours, and will respond as promptly as possible.

I hope you all had a fantastic summer! I am so excited to be teaching at Reagan Academy again this year.
