Konnichiwa Minasan!,

     Well guys (and gals of course) this is not at all how I imagined ending the year. I'm sad we don't get to do our BIG Japanese feast it really would've been a really fun time. I hope you've enjoyed your beginning Japanese experience this year and learned a little bit about the language, culture, and country. I love Japan, I wish I could go there on every vacation. Some of you I won't get to see again next year, and that saddens me. I hope that you remember your time in Japanese class fondly and hopefully go on to keep studying and learning. Learning the language is really a life-long pursuit. I've been studying Japanese since I was in high school and that was a LOOOONG time ago. lol! Anyway, there's always something new about Japan for me to study. Keep watching and enjoying Anime and Manga. Stick with it. and above all  GANBATTE KUDASAI!

Reading Comprehension #2

Thursday May 7, 2020

Konnichiwa Minasan!,

   Today I have another short short story for you to translate into English. Once again I tried to separate the words for you to make it easier. Also, quotation marks around a word indicate its a foreign word (example "ge-mu" = game). I hope this helps you a bit more in your translation. Hang in there and good luck! GANBATTE KUDASAI!

Konnichiwa Minasan!,

      Today you're going to work on translating a few sentences. This is back from lesson 2; so nothing too hard. Do your best. Questions one through four are a dialogue between two friends, Satoko and Shouta. You do NOT need to write down their names each time, just translate the sentence. Number five through nine are translating English to Japanese. I'm sure you can figure it out (google translate **Cough **cough if you can't. Lol) GOOD LUCK!

Assignment

March 31, 2020

Konnichiwa Minasan!,

     Today we are going to delve back into some grammar from lesson 6.

We are going to learn how:

-to make adjectives negative (pg 118 in your lesson packet)

MAKING ADJECTIVES NEGATIVE

-All true adjectives in Japanese end with "i"

-To make "i" adjectives negative you drop the last "i" then add "kunai"

FORMULA= ("i" adjective) minus "i", add "kunai"= it's not (adjective)

EXAMPLES-

     atarashii= new    atarashkunai= not new

     samui= cold        samukunai= not cold

     oishii=delicious   oishkunai= not delicious

THE SAME FORMULA WORKS WITH COLORS

EXAMPLES-

     akai= red       akakunai=not red

     charoi= brown       charokunai=not brown

     aoi= blue       aokunai=not blue

Use the following google form to do the assignment for today, giving you some practice with this grammar:

I hope everyone's study of Japanese is going well and being enjoyable. Remember to use Duolingo EVERYDAY. Have fun with it. It is a great opportunity to have so much time to learn from it. Today I have a short vocabulary assignment for you from the lesson 6 packet you received before the school dismissal. If you have happened to lose yours, I suggest using the site:

https://jisho.org/

It is a free online dictionary, a great reference in your study.
