"Stay Calm Everyone" by Savannah West

Another great composition from one of our 8th graders, Savannah West with a fitting title for our time! Thanks for sharing Savannah!

Jazz-Fly-2-Using-Spanish-Words-in-a-Story

You are welcome to do this optional activity after viewing the video. It is a fun fill -in-the-blank with Spanish words to create a story activity!

Complete the following rain forest story by filling in the most fitting Spanish phrases.  There are Spanish words with their meanings provided so you can choose which ones you want to use!  This would be fun for 3rd and 4th graders but all ages are welcome to try it!

Jazz Fly 2

This is the next Jazz Fly 2 adventure. It has a Jazz feel with a Latin influence. Look for the Spanish words in the book! 3rd and 4th graders have an optional fun writing assignment that goes along with this story! Enjoy!

Quarantine by Sarah Snelson

Sarah, an 8th grader at Reagan Academy, composed this song on Noteflight (a composing program) we use at Reagan Academy. It is one of the songs we have been playing together online during our video conferencing classes. This is just one example of the fine compositions students are producing during this time. Nice job Sarah!

Easter Music Lesson 2020

We have been learning about Holidays from cultures all over the world.  This week we will be talking about the Easter, Passover and Ramadan holidays and how they all have some things in common: food, family, and music.  I hope the videos are easy to access in the powerpoint.  Happy Easter, Passover and Ramadan!

HistoryofJazzinAmericaSlideShowPresentation

This is for 3rd and 4th grade music class for the week of March 30 - April 3.  This is a powerpoint that has a lot of links to youtube videos of a lot of famous Jazz musicians.  Don't worry about doing the assignment on the second slide.  Just enjoy the history of Jazz with your students!

Rhapsody in Blue/Gershwin powerpoint

Hello!
Parents I apologize you are getting my whole secret teacher plan that goes along with this - I tried taking out the slides that I wanted the students to see but was unable to - so now you get to see all of the plans.  I purchased this from another teacher and want to give her credit but please respect her copyright and only use it in your home.  Thank you! I'm so glad some of you are watching these lessons! Stay Healthy! Mrs. Ahlborn

3rd Grade Music lesson for week of March 23-27

3rd Grade

This week 3rd grade is learning about the American Composer George Gershwin.  Please have your student listen to this piece of music

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynEOo28lsbc

and read the powerpoint that goes with it while they are listening. It is about a 15 minute song.  Have them draw/color a picture of what they think the story of the song is about on a blank piece of paper.  After they have read the powerpoint and colored – THEN have them watch the Disney Fantasia 2000 short film of it.  (Don’t do this first or they lose a super great active listening opportunity.)  Here is the youtube link to the Disney short

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ie-TS-BitnQ

– sometimes it pops up that it is no longer in use. You might have to enter in Rhapsody in Blue Fantasia 2000 manually and see if you can get it then. Have them compare their ideas of what the song is about to what Disney animators did.  For further information about Gershwin – this is a great website with videos of some of his other music you can share with your student:

Also! I've found a really fun music game that is very scientific too!  It is Chrome music lab.  Here is the link:
