Description
A school nutrition professional is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff in a safe, clean, and welcoming school cafeteria. This role includes food preparation, maintaining sanitation standards, assisting students during meal service, and ensuring the cafeteria operates efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes and school nutrition guidelines.
• Serve meals and beverages for students and staff.
• Set up and replenish serving lines.
• Operate cash registers or point-of-sale systems.
• Wash dishes, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen, cafeteria area, and food preparation areas.
• Store food properly and monitor food temperatures for safety.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
• Assist with inventory, stocking supplies, and receiving deliveries.
• Provide friendly customer service, supervise, and assist students during lunch periods, in serving lines, while eating, and during cafeteria dismissal.
• Work as part of a team to ensure timely meal service.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and be a team player.
• Maintain positive and professional communication with staff, students, and parents.
• Have knowledge of and adherence of school and district policies.
Work Environment:
• School cafeteria or kitchen.
• Early morning to mid-afternoon schedule, typically Monday through Friday, no weekends.
• All staff members are required to work some school days for special meals/holidays.
• Frequent standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, twisting, and exposure to kitchen equipment.
• All staff members must be able to lift 50lbs.
• There are required annual training and cleaning days will occur during the summer months.
• Wage depends on work experience. Every employee must be able to pass a fingerprint/background check.
