Posture + Position Checklist

Cello/Bass Posture Checklist

* Circle Yes or No for the following questions*

Yes or No Feet are flat on the floor
Yes or No C string peg is behind left ear (cello) OR 1st finger tape level with eyebrow (bass)

Cello/Bass Left Hand Position Checklist

Yes or No Straight direct line from forearm to base index finger joint
Yes or No Thumb is relaxed, perpendicular to neck, and opposite of the 2nd finger

Yes or No 1st finger is tilted slightly back towards the peg box

Yes or No Top of the tip of the fingers are placed on the string

Set-Up

1. Stomp stomp stomp your feet

2. Sit on the edge of your seat (or stand up tall)

3. Take a deep breath in

4. Roll your shoulders out

5. Hold your instrument up (or in front of you)

6. Pour it out violins/violas

7. Bring the instrument to you

8. Tap tap tap tap tap

9. Pat pat pat pat pat

10. Hug your babies cellos + basses

11. Make a V with your left hand

12. Put your thumb in the thumb spot (1st tape vln/vla in between tapes 1 + 2 cello/bass)

13. Wiggle wiggle wiggle your fingers into a "C"

14. Baby shark doo doo with your right hand

15. Anchor your thumb on the C bout violin/violas OR on the side of the fingerboard cellos/basses

16. Stretch your pointer finger over the finger board captain hook style

17. BINGO! You are ready to pizzicato!
