Welcome to Second Grade!

Hello, Second Graders and Families!

I am Mrs. Holly Burgemeister...but that's a mouthful, so I hope you'll call me Mrs. B! I am so excited for second grade this year! Around here, we believe imagination is a superpower! This year we’ll read amazing stories, solve tricky problems, explore new ideas, and discover that learning can be one big adventure.

I grew up in Utah, a little farther north than where we are today, in Layton. After high school, I moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where I attended Idaho State University and earned a degree in Biology. After graduation, I moved back to Utah—this time to Provo. While teaching and working in education, I discovered that my true passion is helping children learn. I am currently completing my master's degree in Elementary Education, and I love finding new ways to become an even better teacher for my students. I currently live in South Provo with my family.

I enjoy reading (the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull is one of my all-time favorites!), baking gluten-free treats, snuggling with my golden retriever Arthur and my kitten Nova (you'll get to know them throughout the year!), traveling, and learning new things.

I absolutely love second grade! We'll explore exciting books, become stronger and more creative writers, and tackle new math challenges. We'll discover amazing science concepts through hands-on experiments and observations, and we'll learn about our community and how to be kind, respectful citizens.

I believe learning should be fun and that the power of our imagination can make it truly exciting. I believe our classroom can be a family where everyone feels safe, valued, and happy, and where each of us has a responsibility to help create that kind of community. I believe mistakes are an important part of learning, and I believe we can make the world a better place through kindness and respect.

I can't wait to get to know each of you and hear about all the things you love. I know that together we'll create wonderful memories, make exciting discoveries, and build an amazing year in our Imagi-Nation classroom!
