CTE Update 5/12/15

Dear Parents,
 
Things are going great in CTE this week.  We have been testing this week so we have had a different schedule.  We have been participating in fun technology activities in my class in between testing.  We will continue to work on our Commercial project next week.

CTE Update 5/7/15

Dear Parents,
 
I can't believe how fast this year has gone, just a few more weeks left.  Things are going great in CTE this week.  We are currently working on a marketing, communications, and multimedia project.  We are creating commercials.  My students have been filming throughout the halls and have also started editing. We are filming the commercials with iPad Minis and then editing in iMovie in my computer lab.  This is one of my favorite units every year and it's been fun to see the creativity of each student.

CTE Update 4/29/15

Dear Parents,
 
Things are going great in CTE this week.  We are currently working on a marketing, communications, and multimedia project.  We are creating commercials.  My students have been writing storyboards and props lists this week to prepare for their advertisement.  We will be filming the commercials with iPad Minis and then editing in iMovie in my computer lab.  This is one of my favorite units every year, so I am excited to get filming.  My students will need to bring props for their commercials starting tomorrow.

CTE Update 4/16/15

Dear Parents,
 
Things are going well in CTE this week.  It has been fun to get back to school after the break.  My student teacher (Mr. Wilson) has finished his teaching experience with my classes and is on his way to graduation.  It was fun to have a teacher with a different style to teach my classes.  I'm very excited, however to be back in the saddle and I am ready to finish this school year strong.  Next week we will start a new unit in film and communications by creating a commercial.  Students will be able to advertise a product of their choice and learn all the steps to creating and publishing a commercial.

CTE Update 3/27/15

Dear Parents,
 
Happy Spring everyone, this year has been going by so quickly!  We've had a great week in CTE.  My students are finishing the unit on Computers. The students were able to take apart and assemble a computer and have been learning the parts that make a computer work.  Today we reviewed the unit and will have a quiz on the content that we have covered on Monday.  It will be fun to see them applying their new knowledge of computer parts and their functions.
 
There are a number of students that have not turned in their "Computer Build" assignment.  I will still accept the completed assignment on Monday.

CTE update 3/18/15

Dear Parents,
 
Term 3 is coming to an end!  I can't believe how fast this year is going!  We've had a great week in CTE.  My students have started a new unit on Computers. The students were able to take apart and assemble a computer and have been learning the parts that make a computer work.  Today they have been learning how to search for and buy parts to build their own computers.  It has been fun to see them applying their new knowledge of computer parts and their functions.

CTE Update 3/12/15

It's been a great week in CTE.  This week we have continued our unit about architecture, interior design, and construction using Google SketchUp to create a 3D floor plan of a house.  My students have continued creating a floor plan on the computers in my lab. It has been fun to see the floor plans come to life.
 
There has been a number of students that are more than a week behind on their project because they have not been working diligently in class.  The complete SketchUp floor plan will be due on Monday.  Tomorrow is the last day we will have to work on SketchUp in class.  
 
If your student is behind, please download SketchUp for free at home by clicking on this link http://www.sketchup.com/download, Select "educational use" and then download Google SketchUp Make for free.

CTE Update 2/12/15

Dear Parents, 
 
It's been a great week in CTE.  This week we have continued our unit about architecture, interior design, and construction using Google SketchUp to create a 3D floor plan of a house.  My students have started creating a floor plan on the computers in my lab.  Some students have not finished their rough draft sketches on paper and will need to work on them over the weekend.  Next week we will continue to create floor plans in SketchUp during class.  
 
Please come to SEP's next week.  Wednesday 3:30-8:00 and Thursday 1:30-4:00 in the gym.  Please come and visit to me to talk about your student.
