CTE Update 2/6/15

Dear Parents,

It's been a great week in CTE.  This week we have started a new unit about architecture, interior design, and construction using Google SketchUp to create a 3D floor plan of a house.  My students have been working on creating a rough draft of their house plans on paper.  Next week they will begin taking their rough draft and making a drawing on the computers.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks for having awesome kids,

Mr. Black

CTE Update 1/29/15

Dear Parents,
It's been a great week in CTE.  We just finished our CO2 dragster races!  It was awesome to see all the hard work the students have done put into action. Our fastest car went 43.76 mph!  Altogether the students cars average about 35 mph!

Now the students will calculate the speed of their cars by dividing the distance of the track by the time they achieved, multiplied by seconds in an hour, and dividing it all by the feet in a mile.

It is so much fun to see Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math all come together in this project.  I love applied math, I think it really becomes clear to the students how the math actually works when they see it in a real-life application. I love working with your kids, they are amazing!  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have.

Thanks,

Mr. Black

CTE Update 1/7/15

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a great holiday break!  Things have been going well in CTE this week.  We have been working on Computer programming this week again and it is fun to see the progress of each student.

We have been working on a computer programming unit on the code.org website.  My students need to finish the 20 hour course by the end of this week to get full points on this project.  If you have a student that is behind, they can work on it at home.  Here is a link to each period's website:

I have added some new pictures to my blog.  (see pictures below) It is fun to see the students working on their CO2 cars!

The end of the term is next Friday and all work for this term is due by Tuesday of next week.  I will accept all work from this term for at least half credit.

CTE Update 12/12/14

Dear parents,

It's been another great week in CTE.  This week we have been participating in a National Week of Code.  I have been really pleased to see how many students that have excelled at computer programming.  There has been a lot of excitement in my class this week.  I have had a lot of students working extra hours on this project at home.  There are a lot of my students that would excel in a computer programming career.  Next week we will go back to working in my woodshop creating CO2 dragsters.

Next week on Thursday we will be having a Christmas party in my classes.  Students may bring a treat to share with the other students on that day.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks for having great kids,
Mr. Black
