Baroque Music History

If your Middle School student has a 0 under Baroque it is because they missed the Friday powerpoint on Music History.  Your student may view the powerpoint file here and fill in their Musical Styles Worksheet.

Every Friday we are studying a different musical era and it is important for your student to be there to not only see this powerpoint but enjoy the music associated with it!

Please donate to my Donor's Choose Project

Hi Parents,

Now through January 6, any donation you make to my classroom project request on DonorsChoose.org will be doubled (up to $500). I need your help to get my students the materials they need to succeed!

Here's the project:

Make Music Magical with Xylophones

Here's another link in case that doesn't work.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Come Friday night to the Salem Pond Christmas lighting and you might see me (Mrs. Ahlborn) performing the Nutcracker, Sleigh Ride and many more fun songs!

Have a wonderful Holiday!

Here Comes Holiday Music!

I have handed out to my 6th -8th orchestras our Holiday music that we will be performing on Dec. 16th.  Please encourage your student to practice these performance pieces and be prepared to rehearse them in class!

Have a wonderful Fall Break!

I hope my students will be practicing over Fall Break!  Once we get back we will be in Holiday Season with preparation for our Holiday Concert in December.  Students will start working on their concert music starting next week!

I hope to see all of you at SEP's next week!

Hello parents!
I look forward to meeting with you next week during SEP's.  I will be participating Open House style either in my orchestra room or in the gym.  No appointments necessary.

See you then!

How to email me your practice recordings

I invite you to email me a recording you have made with your Interactive Practice Studio.  You can either click on "email selected files" and it should automatically email it to me or
  • Emails can be sent manually from any internet email account. To locate the files Press the “Open Folder Containing My Files” Button. This will show you all of your recordings. You will then be able to email the files from that location using your choice of email services.
Thanks so much!

Dear Orchestra Parents and Students!

I am so excited about our new music book, String Basics, because it includes an amazing computer program for your student to practice with at home.  I encourage you to download this program on your home computer and allow your student the opportunity to learn and grow from this inexpensive music program.  I would like to use this program as not only a way for enhancing your student’s practice experience, but as an assessment tool that will save invaluable class time when your student can email me their playing tests from home .  Many companies charge $35 and up for this type of program, but it is included free with the purchase of your book .

Here is how you download the Interactive Practice Studio to your computer.

  1. Go to kjos.com/ips. This screen will open up to the interactive studio.
  2. Click on the sentence “I am using the IPS for the first time and want to download the software”.
  3. A new screen will appear and will ask you for your “User license code found on the User license card on the inside back cover of your book”. It is behind the card that says IPS User license and is a 16 digit code.
  4. Enter that 16 digit code and hit submit and you should be on your way!
  5. When you are entering your email in the program, I suggest using one of the email sites they list. Please have your students enter [email protected] for my teacher email that they will submit their music tests to.

You do need certain system requirements for this program to work.  If you are having difficulties loading the IPS program, please click on the FAQ button on the Interactive studio website.  It has a lot of great tips including what system requirements you need on your computer to make it work.

I cannot stress how wonderful this program will be for your student if they are willing to work with it!  Because students can record themselves and listen to themselves, I can foresee better intonation and rhythmic pulse as just a few benefits of practicing with this program.  We use it daily in the classroom and your student should be comfortable using it in your home.

Please let me know your feedback as we explore this new curriculum this year!

Thanks for your support!

We filled this essay out the first week of school.  It was due Aug. 28th.  Some students are missing this essay - here is a copy so they can complete it and return it to me.
